Medical Disclaimer

Please read this disclaimer carefully before using Wayven. Your health and the health of your loved ones should always be guided by qualified medical professionals.

This website does not provide medical advice

The content on Wayven — including quality scores, provider comparisons, and informational text — is provided for general informational purposes only. It is not intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

Always seek the advice of your physician, hospice medical director, or other qualified health provider with any questions you may have regarding a medical condition or care decisions.

Not a substitute for professional medical judgment

Wayven is a data comparison tool that presents publicly available quality information about hospice providers. It does not:

  • Diagnose or treat any medical condition
  • Recommend specific providers, treatments, or courses of care
  • Assess whether hospice care is appropriate for any individual patient
  • Replace the clinical evaluation and judgment of licensed healthcare professionals
  • Provide any form of medical, nursing, or clinical advice

The decision to pursue hospice care, and the selection of a specific hospice provider, should be made in consultation with the patient’s healthcare team, taking into account the patient’s unique medical situation, preferences, and needs.

Limitations of the data

The quality data displayed on Wayven is sourced from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and is subject to important limitations:

Data may be outdated

CMS data is retrospective and covers a past reporting period, typically with several months of lag. A provider’s current quality of care may differ significantly from what the most recent data reflects, especially if the provider has undergone staffing changes, ownership transitions, or operational improvements.

Scores are calculated, not official

The Hospice Care Index and score levels displayed on this site are our own calculations derived from CMS data. They are not official CMS ratings, government endorsements, or certified quality designations. They are designed as informational tools to help families make comparisons.

Incomplete data for some providers

Smaller or newer providers may not have sufficient patient volume to generate reliable data on all quality measures. Missing data does not necessarily indicate poor quality — it may simply mean the provider has too few cases for CMS to report a meaningful figure.

Quantitative data has inherent limitations

Quality scores cannot capture every aspect of hospice care. Factors such as the compassion of individual caregivers, cultural sensitivity, responsiveness to unique family dynamics, and the overall human experience of care are not reflected in numerical data. Scores should be used as one factor among many in your decision-making process.

No endorsement of providers

Wayven does not endorse, recommend, or refer users to any specific hospice provider. The presence of a provider on this site indicates only that they appear in CMS public data. A higher score does not constitute our recommendation, and a lower score does not constitute a warning against using that provider.

No hospice provider has paid to appear on this site, and no provider can influence their listing, score, or profile information. We have no financial relationship with any hospice provider.

No government affiliation

Wayven is an independent, privately operated website. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, or any other government agency. Our use of publicly available CMS data does not imply any government endorsement of this site, its content, or its methodology.

Consult qualified healthcare professionals

We strongly encourage you to:

  • Talk to your loved one’s physician about whether hospice care is appropriate
  • Ask hospital discharge planners and social workers for guidance on local providers
  • Contact hospice providers directly to ask questions about their services, availability, and approach to care
  • Verify provider information independently, as details may have changed since the last CMS data update
  • Use this site as one resource among many in your research and decision-making process

In case of emergency

If you or someone you know is experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 or your local emergency number immediately. Do not use this website to seek emergency medical guidance. Wayven is not equipped to provide emergency assistance of any kind.
